03 Oct Google To Introduce Cloud Regions In India: It’s Official!
In an attempt to cater improve and secured cloud services to developers and enterprise customers in India, Google is planning to set up an ‘Indian Cloud Region’ in 2017. The expected place where the region will first be launched is known to be Mumbai.
The company unveiled the locations of the ‘Google Cloud Regions’ and G Suite at an event in San Francisco titled ‘Horizon’ on Thursday. The eight new Cloud locations are – Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, Northern Virginia, Sao Paulo, London, Finland and Frankfurt. The aim is to provide a platform powered by machine learning, infrastructure and networking services to not only allow Indian developers, enterprise customers and startups to build high-performance apps and data-analysis tools at a low cost but also help them in every stage of development until the app is ready to be launched.
The company states in their blog regarding the release, “Our investment in a local Cloud Region reaffirms our commitment to our customers in India. The local region will help make Google Cloud Platform services even faster for Indian developers and enterprise customers, enhancing differentiators that are already motivating companies to choose us as their partner. As India’s startup community continues to grow, Cloud Platform provides the full stack of services to build, test and deploy their applications.”
The proposed plan is supposedly crafted to tackle the recent announcements by Amazon Web Services regarding the opening of data centers in India and compete with rivals like Microsoft.
The company further showed their confidence in their customers and in the success of the plan, “With more than one billion end users, we’ve gained significant traction in India and across the world. Globally, key customers already leveraging the benefits of Google Cloud Platform include SnapChat creator Snap Inc, Pokemon Go creator Niantic Labs and Evernote. In India too, we have seen great customer momentum with thousands of customers including major brands like Wipro, Ashok Leyland, Smartshift by Mahindra & Mahindra, Dainik Bhaskar Group and INshorts.com building on Google Cloud Platform.”
As per the company, “The opening of the cloud region opens up newer opportunities for several new cloud partners who will benefit from building their services on Google Cloud.”
G Suite, previously known as ‘Google Apps for Work’ is a collection of smart apps including Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar, Hangouts, and more – designed to bring people together, with real-time collaboration built in from the start.
